本届塑料博览会以“塑料智造——新理念•新机遇•新发展”为主题，设塑料原料、塑料机床模具、塑料机械、塑料模具半成品等4大展区，展位2000个，吸引了15个国家和地区的近400家企业参展。

据第十八届中国塑料博览会组委会介绍，本届塑料博览会除了传统的产品展示展销和经贸洽谈活动外，还将举办第十二届中国塑料产业发展国际论坛和第十八届中国塑料博览会材料峰会暨宁波市第九届学术大会新材料分会。

中国塑料博览会自1999年成功举办首届以来,累计参展企业8365家(次)，参展参会中外客商232万余人(次)，成交总额527.71亿元，签订中外合资合作项目482个，总投资96亿美元。余姚从一个自身不生产1克塑料原料的城市发展成为中国最大的塑料原料集散地，2015年中国塑料城交易量达797.4万吨，交易额达864.97亿元。

据悉，今年10月，中国(余姚)国际塑料博览会和中国塑料博览会获得全球展览业协会(UFI)认可。
